Report on Community TB Care Project

Community TB Care: To address the issues of Tuberculosis in the Community, CIRDDOC Nig in collaboration with SUCCDEV and Health Alive Foundation with support from Global fund round 9 worked on the need to increase awareness of Tuberculosis (TB) and to increase the Community’s involvement in community TB care (CTBC) through a closely linked partnership between the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy control programme,(NTBLCP) and the Civil Society Coalition on Tuberculosis (TB) at the National Level, States and Communities/wards, before the project started there were misconceptions and myths about TB in the Communities, the project started in 2011 with a two- day training workshop of CBOs on Community Tuberculosis Care, then advocacy visits to gatekeepers and awareness creation/outreaches in Abakaliki LGA were carried out. The Communities visited were all sensitized on the causes, preventive and treatment for TB, in the cause of the project Community Volunteers were identified, selected and trained, their roles were to identify suspects, make referrals to the nearest DOT centres for testing and treatment. The Project ended 30th June 2015. The overall goal of the project is to promote behavioral change in the Community.
