Mrs. Oby Nwankwo, a trailblazer in gender justice and human rights advocacy, has been inducted into the Nigerian Women Hall of Fame by the National Centre for Women Development (NCWD). This prestigious honor recognizes her immense contributions to nation-building, women’s rights, and social justice in Nigeria and beyond.
A Legacy of Advocacy and Impact
Princess Obiageli Theodora Nwankwo, Chief Magistrate (Rtd) was a pioneer advocate for gender justice in Africa and globally, dedicating her life to advancing women’s rights, promoting good governance, and strengthening access to justice. As Nigeria’s two-time representative at the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), she played a critical role in shaping policies and advocating for legislative reforms that protect and empower women.
Through her leadership at CIRDDOC, she worked tirelessly to ensure that women and marginalized communities had a voice in governance, legal protection, and equal opportunities. Her advocacy efforts contributed to landmark legal reforms and increased participation of women in decision-making processes.
